Take a quick scan of Tyson Fury’s Instagram, and you’ll see recent posts where it looks like he’s having a grand time in Las Vegas ahead of his Feb. 22 rematch with Deontay Wilder for Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title.
But Fury wants to be clear: he’s working extremely hard to get ready for the fight, and social media isn’t real life.
“It would seem that I’m in a hot tub with palm trees and blue skies, Las Vegas, living the dream,” he said in an update on his account. “Rolex on, sunglasses on. But in reality, not on Instagram, I’m in a grueling training camp, and really, it’s boring, repetitive every day.
“Instagram would make you believe I’m having a whale of a time, enjoying meself, living the dream, everything’s fantastic. But in reality, I’m getting worked to the bone every single day. I’m getting smashed, session after session. I’m in the recovery pool because me joints are smashed and I need the recovery.
“So whatever you see on Instagram, whatever other peoples lives that you’re trying to influence and take things from, remember this: the grass is not always greener on the other side, and everything good in life comes from hard work.”
Fury (29-0-1, 20 KO) and Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KO) are set to meet on Feb. 22 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, headlining a joint FOX and ESPN pay-per-view.
