Regis Prograis: I think Juan Heraldez is an average fighter

Prograis and Heraldez square off this weekend on the Davis-Santa Cruz undercard.

As former junior welterweight titleholder Regis Prograis and Juan Heraldez get ready to duke it out this weekend on Showtime PPV, neither fighter is particularly impressed by the other. Earlier this month it was Heraldez who was saying that he likes the style matchup with Prograis, and now Prograis tells RingTV that he believes Heraldez is just your average fighter.

“I’ve watched Heraldez and I think he’s an average fighter,” Prograis told The Ring. “I think he called me average and that’s just crazy. It’s interesting to see what happens when you get in the ring with a person because until you’re in there you never know. He’s undefeated but average although I’m not looking at it like that. I’m training like I’m fighting myself, like he’s the best fighter in the world.”

Prograis said he expects to go into this fight looking to put on a show-stealing performance, before looking towards bigger and better things, quite possibly while still working with the PBC banner. Prograis was recently in a social media spat with Adrien Broner, and says that fight could still be one that would be worthwhile even without a belt on the line while also admitting that he aligned himself with PBC because Top Rank couldn’t guarantee him a shot at their 140lb champions, Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez.
