The highly-anticipated Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell fight has been rescheduled, and will kick off the new year in style for the sport of boxing on Saturday, Jan. 2, streaming live on DAZN.

Garcia-Campbell was originally set for Dec. 5, but 10 days ago was postponed due to Campbell testing positive for COVID. There was some hope then that it could be back on in just two weeks’ time on Dec. 19, but then Canelo Alvarez got a deal done to fight Callum Smith on DAZN. Canelo’s the bigger fight. Canelo gets the date he wants.

But getting a big fight that a lot of people want to see on for the start of 2021 isn’t bad, either.

“My mindset going into this fight hasn’t changed, and my training hasn’t stopped,” said Garcia. “I’m excited we have a new date and can finally bring this to the fans. I’m here, and I’m ready to ring in the new year with a victory. Let’s go!”

“New date, new year, same result,” said Campbell. “I’m fully back in training and have never felt better. What a way to start 2021 this is going to be with a clinical Luke Campbell win.”

Golden Boy haven’t fully re-set the undercard from its original makeup, and will be announcing undercard matchups and details soon. It might seem easy to just move everyone from Dec. 5 to Jan. 2, but that’s up to those fighters to be willing to train over the holidays; a lot of fighters don’t want to do that, which is a big reason why January is usually such a barren wasteland of a month on the boxing schedule.
