Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr was pretty much exactly as advertised unless you’re talking about the actual advertisements instead of, y’know, the reality of what was going to happen, as the two legendary fighters went to a not-official draw in their eight-round exhibition bout on pay-per-view.
Mostly, people seem to have had some fun, though I suppose there must be people out there furious that this was obviously not a full-on, 100 percent effort fight from either man. The 54-year-old Tyson was the fresher of the two, but the 51-year-old Jones showed little sparks of who he used to be, too, and mostly that’s all you could have asked.
If nothing else, we got to hear Snoop Dogg call this fight (as well as Jake Paul wiping out Nate Robinson in two rounds, and by the way, the pros had their thoughts on that, too).
Here’s what some pros had to say after the exhibition bout:
And it goes the distance! And I’ll say that my prediction was wrong! I said Tyson would be dangerous the first 3 rds then get tired! And @RealRoyJonesJr would outbox him! But @MikeTyson was strong and fast all 8 rds! They both did well! @triller #tysonvsjones

Wow good night a draw. They told the public it would be a winner and gave us a draw. I thought @MikeTyson won it. And I was cheering for @RealRoyJonesJr ! But still great night to watch!

Happy to see these legends get in the ring and do what they’ve loved to do since they were kids. I will definitely be recapping the night with my boys on @ThePorterWayPod this coming week! Respect to @MikeTyson & @RealRoyJonesJr! #TysonJones

Both Mike & Roy put on a great show tonight... I’m never a fan of draws but I think considering the circumstances of this fight it’s a fair decision #LongLiveTheLegends

Roy Jones could barely walk to the ring. Soon as he got buzzed was bouncing around the ring like the old days. Crazy what the human brain is capable of

I enjoyed that Great to see glimpses of iron mike and I think he’s got it out of it not what he wanted but whet he needed but no way that was a draw

Mike and Roy put on a decent show for two guys over 50. It’s time to get back to real fights.
