Mike Tyson still open to another fight against Evander Holyfield

Tyson says if Holyfield’s representatives really had his best interest at heart he would’ve been in this past weekend’s event.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

After what turned out to be a much better-than-expected event between former greats Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. over the weekend, Tyson appeared at the post-fight press conference to discuss what might be next for him and it wasn’t long before he threw out the name of Evander Holyfield.

“Maybe Evander needs to talk to me because every time my business associates talk to his business associates, it doesn’t turn out well,” Tyson responded to a reporter. “If you could see what we made tonight, if these guys really cared about the welfare of Evander they would’ve had this fight with Evander. Or maybe they could do another but whoever he’s with is handling it totally wrong.”

Tyson and Jones ended up fighting to an unofficial draw in their exhibition match but won the eyes of plenty of nostalgic fans in this outing. It now seems like this won’t just be a one-off event, and I’d bet it won’t be long before we hear an announcement of boxing’s next novelty fight.
