Just a month after scoring his career-best victory, Lithuanian Olympian Emiantas Stanionis returns to action this Wednesday, headlining a PBC on FS1 card opposite Janer Gonzalez at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall.
The 26-year-old Stanionis (11-0, 8 KO), whose previous biggest win came over Levan Ghvamichava in 2017, looked strong in his November 4th beatdown of Justin DeLoach, which marked his first appearance of the year. He takes a rather sizable step back against Colombia’s Gonzalez (19-3-1, 15 KO), who’s dropped three straight to Radzhab Butaev, Jamal James, and Ivan Golub.
Once-beaten featherweight Jose Perez (8-1-1, 3 KO) faces Jose Edgardo Garcia (13-0-2, 9 KO) and his fluffy record earlier in the evening. In addition, 18-year-old Guadalajaran lightweight Fernando Angel Molina (3-0, 2 KO) takes on Teodoro Alonso (3-2, 0 KO).
More interesting are the debuts. In one, Filipino amateur ace Eumir Marcial fights fellow middleweight Andrew Whitfield (3-1, 2 KO). In the other, top-ranked American flyweight Michael Angeletti fights Jerrell Barbour (1-0, 0 KO).
“Eimantas Stanionis continued his ascent up the welterweight rankings with an emphatic victory in November and will return to FS1 on December 16 with a sturdy test in Janer González,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “In addition, José Perez vs. José Edgardo Garcia is a 50-50 matchup of hungry featherweights that’s sure to deliver action. Adding in a trio of exciting prospects looking to make nationally televised statements will make December 16 a great night for boxing fans on FS1 and FOX Deportes.”
