“I like to be under pressure,” says Canelo about his willingness to move around weight classes against top opponents. “I like to know there’s a challenge waiting for me, motivating me. That’s what I like, feeling challenged. Doing things that make me exert myself in training and keep the mentality of of making history. That’s what I like. And that’s why I like taking big challenges.”
As for Callum Smith, he’s reflective on his rise through the ranks which has only bolstered his belief in his ability.
“I’m not lucky to be in this fight,” Smith said. “I’ve earned the right to be in this fight. I’m No. 1 in the world. (Canelo’s) moved up to 168, to my weight division. So as much as he’s a very good fighter, he’s achieved all that he has, he’s challenging me for my title and I don’t plan on giving it up.”
