Canelo vs Smith: Chris Eubank Jr expects dominant performance from Canelo

Eubank says Smith’s vulnerabilities have already been exposed and Canelo will take advantage of them.

As Callum Smith gets ready to defend his super middleweight world title against Canelo Alvarez this weekend, he doesn’t necessarily have the full thriving support from his British compatriots. Chris Eubank Jr., for instance, is going on record to Sky Sports saying that he’s confident Canelo will thoroughly dominate Smith en route to taking his 168lb title belt.

“It will be a dominant performance from Canelo. After watching Smith against John Ryder, that exposed a lot of weaknesses in his game. Canelo is a better, more advanced version of Ryder. Smith will have a lot of trouble in this fight. I don’t see him being effective.”

I mean, it’s fine if this is just Eubank’s sober analysis of the fight — he doesn’t have to back his fellow Brit just because — and I know that there’s plenty of others who agree with him. And should Eubank’s prediction of an easy Canelo win come to fruition, Eubank Jr wants the next shot at the Mexican star, naming Gennadiy Golovkin and Jermall Charlo as his second and third choices.

Eubank, 31, has been out of the ring for a full calendar year now, with no definitive word on when he could return. But as far as fans are concerned, I don’t think they’d mind seeing Eubank in any of these fights he seeks.
