In what seems to be something of a surprise to a lot of people, Gennadiy Golovkin is indeed fighting on Friday evening, taking on Kamil Szeremeta in an IBF middleweight title fight that will stream live on DAZN (5 pm ET — that’s not a typo, no) from Florida.
And while Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KO) is 38 years old now and surely past his peak days — although still arguably the top middleweight in boxing if Canelo Alvarez is indeed staying at 168 — one thing you can’t say about GGG is that his conditioning has faltered. The Kazakh star was absolutely shredded on the scales today:

Golovkin is a big favorite here against Szeremeta (21-0, 5 KO), who is the IBF mandatory challenger and a former European champ but not seen by really anyone as a serious contender at 160.

But it’s a big fight for Golovkin in the sense that he needs to win and get it over and done with if he wants that third fight with Canelo Alvarez in 2021, and we know very, very well that it’s the fight he wants more than any other. Canelo, of course, returns Saturday against Callum Smith, also on DAZN.
