In the immediate aftermath of Billy Joe Saunders unanimous decision win over Martin Murray, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn took a few moments to give his immediate feeback on Saunders’ performance and discusses where they want to go from here.
Hearn on Saunders’ win:
“He’s a great fighter and I think he feels that he wants a performance, a pound-for-pound great performance, which he believes he is. I thought having been out for 13 months it was a great performance. So, Martin Murray very, very tough but Billy was great. He’s a rhythm fighter, he needs to be out and active all the time and having been out for 13 months is very difficult. But I thought it was a really good performance.”
On what he wants to do with Saunders going into next year:
“[The Canelo-Smith winner is] the one. He needs to fight the winner of that, really. But hopefully Callum Smith wins that fight, you’ve got an all British unification. If Canelo wins, that’s a fight for Billy Joe Saunders as well. But there’s Demetrius Andrade, there’s Golovkin, but he must have a major fight in 2021. He must have a major fight.
