Tugstsogt Nyambayar was plenty ambitious to challenge Gary Russell Jr. for his world title in only his 12th professional fight this past weekend, and following his unanimous decision loss Nyambayar talks to the media about his thoughts on the fight, captured by Fight Hype. Check out some excerpts below...
Nyambayar on his reaction to the fight with Russell Jr:
“I think I fought a little lazy. I just waited for him. I think that affected the fight.”
“I thought I could win late rounds and I was just trying to push in the late rounds and I thought I could win the fight.”
On starting to build some momentum during the fight but not able to sustain it:
“I just lost the rhythm to the fight. I just lost the momentum of the rounds after five, six rounds.”
On how he would rate Russell’s speed and power:
“He’s a little bit fast and he has no power. He has no power, he has speed. And if he wants to fight again I will beat him.”
On if he tried to walk down Russell because he didn’t respect his power:
“Yeah...and then I think he was losing his momentum in a couple rounds and that’s when I thought I could just push (forward).”
On what he would do differently in a rematch:
“If I do the rematch I would control the fight for sure.
“I didn’t so my part and Gary Russell is a great champion and I have a lot of respect for him.”
On if it was Russell’s hand speed or footwork that gave him the most trouble:
“It all depends on me, I just waited a little long.”
