The road to Anthony Fowler-Scott Fitzgerald II has a fresh new pothole. The two were set to appear in separate bouts on the March 7th Scott Quigg-Jono Carroll card in Manchester, and while Fowler has received an opponent in Jack Flatley, Fitzgerald is out, ostensibly because of weight issues.
Fowler (11-1, 8 KO) is 2-0 since an upset loss to Fitzgerald in the former’s native Liverpool, taking decisions over former British champions Brian Rose and Harry Scarff. Flatley (16-1-1, 4 KO) last fought in December, rebounding from a decision loss to the aforementioned Scarff with a get-well decision over 11-27-5 Alistair Warren. He has one (1) win over someone with a winning record, so it’s safe to say that Matchroom aren’t taking any chances when it comes to keeping the Fitzgerald rematch alive.
The card also features Hughie Fury against TBA, plus a clash between top WBO super middleweight contenders Rohan Murdock and Zach Parker that may or may not be a final eliminator.
