This week’s boxing schedule, for all it really matters, basically doesn’t exist. Tuesday’s ESPN+ show is off, a pair of Thursday shows on DAZN and UFC Fight Pass are off, Saturday’s big Briedis-Dorticos fight is off. Right now, all we’ve got left is MTK’s Golden Contract tournament on Friday, and it would seem kind of insane if that actually went on at this point.
So with no boxing, well, there’s simply not a lot to do for us boxing fans. It’s not like we can turn to other sports, either; outside of UFC doggedly trying to continue their shows “as scheduled,” everything is suspended. Nobody’s doing much of anything thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s even recommended you are mostly just to stay home when you can these days.
So we’re going to try to pitch in a bit on the evening of Friday, Mar. 20. At 8 pm ET we’ll host the return of the old timey Bad Left Hook Watch Party. We’ll get together on Watch2Gether, watch some classic fights, and talk some boxing for a few hours.
Here’s what we’ll be watching on Friday, in order:
- Pawel Wolak vs Delvin Rodriguez (July 15, 2011): A fantastic, 154-pound ESPN Friday Night Fights main event from the Roseland Ballroom in New York.
- Edwin Rosario vs Jose Luis Ramirez II (Nov. 3, 1984): A WBC lightweight title war from Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Ring’s Fight of the Year for 1984.
- Jermain Taylor vs Kelly Pavlik (Sept. 29, 2007): Taylor defending the WBC and WBO (and LINEAL!!!!!!!!!) middleweight titles against the unbeaten underdog puncher at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
- Evander Holyfield vs Riddick Bowe (Nov. 13, 1992): Holyfield’s undisputed heavyweight championship on the line in a matchup of undefeated fighters from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. A stone cold 90s classic and The Ring’s Fight of the Year for 1992.
Here’s the link for the room. Save it, bookmark it, whatever you need to do. I’ll be there at 8 pm ET on Friday (probably a few minutes earlier) and will wait a few for some folks to join before kicking off the fights.
Hopefully this will be something for at least some of us to enjoy on Friday, so if you wind up with nothing to do, swing by and we’ll be there to shoot the shoot.
