After a false start or two, Marcos Maidana’s comeback was finally on track for April 18th, when he would face Jorge Cali in a five-round exhibition in Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, it’s become yet another casualty of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Argentina restricted “all international events” last week, scrapping the planned Americas qualifier for Tokyo 2020. It’s no surprise that domestic shows are now on the chopping block.
I was extremely dismissive of this fight when it was first announced, but I’ll admit I’ve softened quite a bit. “El Chino” appears to have dropped quite a bit of weight in preparation, and I can certainly respect the effort he’s put in despite it being an exhibition. While I still don’t care to see him in action against a top-level pro at this point, it sucks to see his preparations potentially go to waste.
At least his beatdown of Adrien Broner never gets old. I could watch that all day.
