Premier Boxing Champions has made the decision to postpone all events through the month of May, the company announced today. The decision is meant to “adhere to the recommendations for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic made by the Centers for Disease Control.
“We will reschedule the postponed events at a later date once it becomes safe to do so,’’ said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions, who promotes most PBC events.
“Now is the time for everyone to do everything they can to stop the spread of the pandemic and take care of your loved ones and your neighbors.’’
PBC already didn’t have much lined up for May, and nothing that had been fully, officially announced 100 percent. There was strong speculation that they’d have a May 16 bill on Showtime, featuring Nordine Oubaali defending his WBC bantamweight title against Nonito Donaire, and Sergey Lipinets and Kudratillo Abdukakhorov fighting for an interim welterweight title.
But the move means that PBC will not be looking to reschedule anything from April that was canceled in May, either. More likely than not, PBC’s decision to forego the month of May is just the first we’re going to hear of promoters making this decision, either willingly or because they have no other choice.
