With the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) officially extending its suspension of all events through May, Matchroom Boxing have announced that they have officially pushed back a trio of scheduled shows.
The scheduled May 2 card featuring Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin has been moved to July 4, while Lee Selby’s lightweight eliminator against George Kambosos Jr has been moved to July 11, which means it will go head-to-head with the Dubois-Joyce card from Frank Warren.
Whyte-Povetkin is also set to feature a pivotal women’s clash between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. George Kambosos Jr vs Lee Selby, set to serve as an IBF lightweight eliminator, includes James Tennyson vs Gavin Gwynne for the vacant British lightweight title and Chris Billiam-Smith defending his Commonwealth cruiserweight belt against unbeaten Nathan Thorley.
Depending on how you’re counting, this is at least the fourth time one of Usyk’s planned heavyweight appearances has fallen apart. Injury scrapped a planned debut against Carlos Takam, Tyrone Spong failed a drug test, and the first bid at making the Chisora fight fell apart when the Ukrainian hurt his elbow last month.
