Top Rank’s Todd duBoef tells Sky Sports that a fight between WBO welterweight titleholder Terence Crawford and Kell Brook is “obviously an option,” giving a bit more momentum to a fight that has been talked up more and more in the media recently.
Brook (39-2, 27 KO) held the IBF welterweight title from 2014 to 2017, beating Shawn Porter to win the title, followed by three defenses against lackluster contenders before losing the belt to Errol Spence Jr.
He’s not the first option, at least not in terms of Crawford’s preferences. Crawford recently said he’d prefer fights with Errol Spence, Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia, or Keith Thurman, but they’re all PBC fighters and that just might not be on the table right now.
But Brook is an option, Crawford said, if the top welterweights aren’t available, and duBoef confirms that Top Rank is legitimately interested in making that fight. He also mentioned Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez, two 140-pound titleholders that Top Rank have under contract, as other options. Ramirez recently said he wants to stay at 140 and fight Taylor for the undisputed championship, but depending on how long boxing is shut down, that may just not be available.
So we’ll see, but yes, Crawford-Brook is a legitimate possibility.
