Maybe-sorta (kinda former?) WBC lightweight titleholder Devin Haney has been, let’s say, incredibly active on social media and making sure his name is out there. The prospect/contender has chimed in on pretty much everything imaginable lately, and has talked about possible fights with basically every name lightweight there is.
On the one hand, this is smart.
On the other hand, it can be a bit taxing if you’re someone who follows the boxing news.
Haney popped up again this weekend to comment, in a roundabout way, on those who have started to criticize his 24-0 (15 KO) record. I, myself, have made comments about it, not meaning to “blame” the 21-year-old for not having faced top names yet, because he’s young and fighting largely at the level he should as he builds his name.
But Haney — and this is consistent — says he’s been willing, it’s just that nobody more highly-regarded has wanted to face him:
When you “so called” don’t fight nobody it’s one thing if nobody wants to fight you its another thing. I will bet 7 figures on myself against anybody in my division! #Boogeyman

Haney is a confident young fighter. He really does seem willing to take on anybody. He says it a lot.
And it seems like IBF titleholder Teofimo Lopez has definitely heard enough about it:
Shut the fuck up kid.. damn you annoying!!! https://t.co/iym2dkeJJ1

There’s no great point to this post. Just an interaction. Two young lightweights who might someday fight one another.
Lopez (15-0, 12 KO) is currently slated to face Vasiliy Lomachenko at some point, with a prior working date of May 30 having been postponed indefinitely by the coronavirus pandemic. Haney underwent shoulder surgery after his last fight in November and was expected to be out six months from January, which now won’t really interrupt his career any more than anyone else’s has been interrupted. He’s also embroiled in a title status mess with the WBC, having been named “champion-in-recess,” and asking to be reinstated as full, normal champion, but the WBC also promised Luke Campbell and Javier Fortuna a vacant title fight, so that’s a whole to-do.
