At some point, WBA/WBO lightweight titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko is going to face IBF lightweight titleholder Teofimo Lopez, or at least that’s the current plan. Nothing is guaranteed in boxing right now, but that’s been the working idea. The two were supposed to fight on May 30, but now that’s on hold.
If/when they do fight, the winner will be in position for another big one, obviously. That could be a rematch, depending on how things go, but Devin Haney — who’s somewhere in the WBC’s currently messy lightweight title situation — is hoping to face the winner, making a simple callout on social media:

Haney (24-0, 15 KO) is 21 years old and has been talking a lot lately, which you can’t blame him for; it’s a way to keep his name out there. He was recovering from a January surgery already, but now his time on the shelf will basically match everyone else’s instead of keeping him sidelined while others fight on. He’s talked to the point that Lopez recently told him to “shut the fuck up” and called him “annoying.”
But however you slice it, Haney is a relevant rising star at 135, and the winner of Loma-Lopez will be seen as The Man, without any real question. Haney would like to make it a question, and the offer to put his money where his mouth is makes it at the least a little bit intriguing. Obviously an actual deal would have to be worked out, but Haney is consistent on these things. He says he’s ready. He says he’s willing. If the call comes, he better be.
