Classic Fight: Daniel Roman and TJ Doheny go to war at the Forum

Just about one year ago, a pair of determined 122-pound titleholders stole the show on DAZN.

On Apr. 26 of last year, DAZN and Matchroom USA put together a packed card at the famed Forum in Inglewood, Calif., headlined by a highly-anticipated rematch at 115 pounds between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Juan Francisco Estrada.

The main event was solid, with Estrada getting revenge via decision over 12 rounds, taking the WBC junior bantamweight title. The card also saw Jessie Vargas put away the brave veteran Humberto Soto in six rounds, plus good performances by a slew of prospects, some of whom have since suffered setbacks.

But it was the 122-pound title unification co-feature that stole the show. Daniel Roman, defending the WBA belt, and TJ Doheny, putting his IBF strap on the line, went to war over 12 rounds, battering one another with hard, back-and-forth action. The fight wound up on the shortlist for 2019 Fight of the Year, and deservedly so. Two warriors showed every ounce of grit they had in that fight, with Doheny recovering from a pair of knockdowns to go the distance and force the issue all the way through.

If you didn’t see the fight last year, it’s a highly recommended watch. If you just want to relive it, there you go, it’s up top.
