Zanfer Promotions is out to beat the entire boxing world to the punch. According to The Athletic’s Lance Pugmire, Fernando Beltran is “working hard” to put on a June 6th show at the TV Azteca studios in Mexico City, headlined by super bantamweight champion Emanuel Navarrete and also featuring former longtime women’s super bantamweight champ Jackie Nava.
The card, which would “likely land on ESPN+,” would be held behind closed doors. It is also “pending health department, sanctioning body approval and the securing of tests.”
It’s safe to say that Navarrete (31-1, 27 KO) probably won’t get anyone on his wishlist; travel restrictions being what they are, the only notable figure he could feasibly land would be countryman Luis Nery. Cesar Juarez is the lone Mexican representative in the WBO top 10 at 122 and he’s coming off a loss, so expect someone along the lines of “Vaquero’s” usual fare if this card comes together.
Still, beggars can’t be choosers, and if they actually manage to put the show on safely, more power to them.
