Those of you who’ve made a big show about what sort of trash you’d watch to cure your boxing withdrawal will soon get the chance to put your money where your mouths are. 40-year-old heavyweights Mariusz Wach and Kevin Johnson are reportedly set to headline a June 12th closed-door pay-per-view in Konary, Poland.
The card will run you 20 Polish zloty, or $4.77 U.S.
Wach (35-6, 19 KO) and Johnson (34-16-1, 18 KO) are obviously perfect PPV material, combining mediocrity and an inability to put on exciting matches. Wach is six fights removed from his last win over someone with a winning record, while Johnson’s 2017 finish of Francisco Pianeta is his only >.500 victory since 2013. Though known for their durability, both also suffered fairly recent stoppage losses to Martin Bakole.
To Wach’s credit, he did give an out-of-shape Dillian Whyte a tougher out than expected back in December, and he at least tends to respond to punches by throwing punches in return. More than one can say about Johnson.
As far as live coverage, I hereby declare myself “not it.”
