Prospect Marc Castro expecting a great pro boxing career

The 20-year-old Matchroom signing figures to turn pro sometime this year.

Matchroom Boxing

20-year-old prospect Marc Castro has yet to turn pro, but after signing with Matchroom in late February, he’s got his eyes on that debut, and has high hopes for himself and his career, believing Eddie Hearn is the right promoter to take him to the top.

“It feels really good to sign with such a great promoter like Eddie,” Castro said on Peleamundo. “He gave me what I asked and it’s such a great opportunity for my professional career. He gave me everything I wanted and he’s honestly the future of the Sport. My family and I feel really good with Eddie. He feels like family.”

Castro had an amateur record of 177-7 and expects to be a world champion as a pro.

“I think I’m going to have a great career,” he said. “My dreams are finally coming true with this and all my family has sacrificed so much. So, it’s so important to me to earn money and take care of my family.

“I want to be world champion, to unify the divisions, be a fighter of the people that they remember me as one of the great Mexican fighters and that they think of me when they think of boxing. And that’s a lot right now but that’s what I’m thinking of achieving step by step.”

The young fighter hasn’t yet officially linked up with a trainer, which is of course high on his to-do list. He did work with Eddy Reynoso for about a month in 2019, he said, and Reynoso could well be a front-runner to take Castro on. The Mexican trainer is most famous for his work with Canelo Alvarez, and also currently trains Luis Nery, Julio Cesar Martinez, and Oscar Valdez, along with Castro’s friend Ryan Garcia.

“Ryan is a good friend. We’ve been friends since we were kids. He’s honestly more like family,” Castro said. “His parents and siblings and also mine. We’ve been friends since 10-11. We’ve always been very close. We’re always training together, and our families are close, so we know each other well.”

Hopefully we’ll get to see Castro glove up in the pros before the year is out. We know Matchroom is incredibly excited about him, and he’s someone you should already have your eye on.
