Yet another elite youngster has elected to ply his craft as a professional. This time it’s 2018 Youth Olympics super lightweight bronze medalist Hassan Azim, who has signed with MTK Global ahead of his planned debut.
“I couldn’t be happier to sign a management deal with MTK Global as I officially announce my exit from amateur boxing.
“MTK Global is an organisation I feel I can trust to be looking out for me in my quest to become a world champion. I look forward to working with MTK Global.”
The press release makes no mention as to whether Tokyo 2020’s postponement played a part in his decision.
The 19-year-old, born in Pakistan and fighting out of Slough, England, served as Team Great Britain’s Closing Ceremony flagbearer after his impressive performance in Buenos Aires, which saw him defeat current lightweight prospect Otha Jones III. He’d previously claimed silver at the European Youth Championships.
You can watch his medal-winning fight at this timestamp.
Azim is MTK’s second acquisition from Team GB in recent months, having signed middleweight Jordan Reynolds in late February.
