Twitter appears to be too impersonal for Britain’s Anthony Fowler and Ohara Davies, who are scheduled to trade barbs in an Eddie Hearn-moderated virtual press conference today at 2:00 PM Eastern. According to Hearn, a 150-pound catchweight bout between the two “has been discussed.”
Fowler (12-1, 9 KO), a career super welterweight, has won three straight since an upset split decision loss to Scott Fitzgerald last year. Hearn and co. attempted to set up a rematch, putting Fowler and Fitzgerald in separate bouts on last month’s Jono Carroll-Scott Quigg undercard, but Fitzgerald’s ongoing implosion means that may take a while.
Davies (21-2, 16 KO) is presently a Golden Contract finalist, having knocked out Logan Yoon and Jeff Ofori to set up a clash with robbery beneficiary Tyrone McKenna. Though he usually operates two weight classes below Fowler, he had trouble making the 140-pound limit against Ofori, making this potential showdown a bit more palatable.
Side note: Davies’ nickname, “Two Tanks”, just makes me think of a delightfully NSFW Lemon Demon song.
Hearn may be selling wolf tickets, but it’s not like we’re in any position to turn down a diversion.
