Top Rank’s June 9 return to the ESPN airwaves, freshly sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, now boasts a co-feature and the beginnings of a supporting cast. Mike Coppinger reports that U.S. Olympian Mikaela Mayer will face former title challenger Helen Joseph in the co-main event while a number of prospects dot the undercard.
Mayer (12-0, 5 KO), a Rio quarterfinalist, has been mighty busy since her 2017 pro debut, fighting a staggering six times in 2018 alone. She takes what looks to be a step up against the Nigerian-born, Connecticut-based Joseph (17-4-2, 10 KO), whose only loss since 2015 came against Delfine Persoon last year.
Alongside the previously mentioned Robeisy Ramirez (2-1, 2 KO), the card will feature a duo of unbeaten heavyweights in Jared Anderson (3-0, 3 KO) and Guido Vianello (6-0, 6 KO), the latter of whom joined Mayer and Ramirez at the 2016 Games.
The main event sees WBO featherweight champ Shakur Stevenson make his super featherweight debut against late replacement Felix Caraballo, who steps in for the visa-stricken Rafael Rivera. Stevenson has not yet indicated whether this will be a permanent move in weight.
