In this video interview with Fight Hub TV, heavyweight fighter Adam Kownacki talks a bit about what happened when he suffered his first loss, getting stopped by Robert Helenius this past March. Check out some excerpts of what Kownacki had to say about the fight now that’s he’s had some time to reflect:
Kownacki on what happened in the fight:
“I got caught with a good shot. I thought it was a really good fight. I got caught with a good shot and I got hurt — I don’t know the last time I got hurt, even in sparring. I’m a warrior, so I went forward and being hurt and going forward is not really a good match up. You’re supposed to step back or hold [laughs], which I don’t even know how to do, I don’t like to do, so I got caught again with the one-two-three that put me on my behind and then he just came forward very aggressively and throw a lot of shots and the referee stopped it.
“So it was definitely tough, but camp was good...I thought I had (the fight) too, which kind of stinks because I thought I had him in the third round...I went for the kill and he caught me with a good right hand and then, down for me.”
On Helenius’ power:
“When you coming forward and they hit you it’s like double power, it’s a lot stronger because you’re walking into the power shot...when I got up I thought ‘yeah, I’m good, I’m good’ and I came forward again instead of step back to recuperate...
“I wanted to get payback instead of being smart with it...what sucks now is all those fans who talked so much shit...like I really want them to actually try this for themselves or actually get in the ring before they talk how easy or how hard it is, you know?
“I will just learn from it, come back, and build back up.”
