The coronavirus picked up its second KO against Top Rank yesterday, forcing 20-year-old Chris Zavala out of a planned fight with fellow unbeaten Eddie Vazquez. Vazquez broke the news on Instagram yesterday, revealing that while his team could not find a replacement opponent, that ESPN guaranteed him a July slot.

Mikaela Mayer, who was supposed to co-headline Shakur Stevenson vs. Felix Caraballo last Tuesday, tested positive over the weekend. With boxing slowly shifting back into gear after a lengthy lull, expect plenty more of these stories in the coming weeks. On the plus side, Zavala is reportedly only experiencing “mild symptoms.”

The June 16th show, scheduled to take place in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand is headlined by WBO #1 bantamweight contender Joshua Greer Jr. against once-beaten Filipino youngster Mike Plania. The co-feature sees undefeated welterweight Giovani Santillan make his Top Rank debut (and second appearance in the last two years) opposite former lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco.
