Welterweight contenders Jamal James and Thomas Dulorme, originally scheduled to headline an April 11th PBC on FOX show in Minneapolis, will now serve as the main event for a July 25th telecast according to Mike Coppinger.. The fight will be PBC’s second since the start of the pandemic, with July 18th’s Luis Nery-Aaron Alameda card on Showtime leading the way.
No specific arena has been named, but BoxRec claims it will take place in Los Angeles. The fight will presumably still be for the WBA interim title; Manny Pacquiao remains the “super” champ despite entering his 11th month without a scheduled defense, while “world” champ Alexander Besputin apparently still hasn’t resolved the failed drug test stemming from his November victory over Radzhab Butaev.
Stupid titles aside, this is still as good a fight as when it was first announced. James (26-1, 12 KO) didn’t let his upset loss to Yordenis Ugas derail him, going on to win his next six, and Dulorme (25-3-1, 16 KO) gave Ugas and Jessie Vargas everything they could handle before knocking Terrel Williams from the ranks of the unbeaten last September. Definitely one of the standout quarantine matchups alongside Eleider Alvarez-Joe Smith Jr. and Ivan Baranchyk-Jose Zepeda.
