During an Instagram Live stream Mike Tyson commented on the pay difference between top level boxers and top level UFC fighters, and that seemed to have gotten the attention of one of UFC’s biggest stars. To begin, Tyson said the following:
“A UFC (fighter) will never be richer than a first-class (boxer). To make $100 million dollars, Conor had to fight Floyd. If he fights Jon Jones he’s not gonna get that. And Jon Jones is the greatest fighter that ever been in the UFC. Jon Jones gotta fight me if he wanna make some super money.”
Now, I don’t know if Jon Jones got Tyson’s message misconstrued or whatever, but he responded by telling Tyson that he got his attention and is willing to shoot the fair one between the ropes.
“Mike Tyson I’ll boxing you in the ring if you promise to give me a real fight in the octagon afterwards,” Jones wrote on Instagram. “And because I respect you so much, I promise I won’t break anything on you.”
Tyson, now 53 years old, has had the rumor mill firing on all cylinders the past couple months since he started posting videos of himself in training. That would reportedly end up in an actual million dollar offer for Tyson to come out of retirement, and although that has yet come to fruition I’m hesitant to rule anything out in a crazy 2020. Jon Jones actually asking for two fights against Tyson seems strangely fitting for the kind of year it’s been.
