Edgar Berlanga, the powerful 23-year-old middleweight prospect promoted by Top Rank, will be back in action on July 21.

That night’s fights are set to be headlined by Oscar Valdez vs Jayson Velez, and Berlanga (13-0, 13 KO) is a young fighter you’ll want to tune in and see. If you’re a regular watcher of Top Rank’s prelim streams on ESPN+, you’ll have seen Berlanga, who turned pro in 2016 and started appearing on Top Rank shows in Apr. 2020, when he knocked out Samir dos Santos in the first round on the Crawford-Khan prelims. He’s fought three times since then, but not since December of last year.

Berlanga, in fact, has knocked out everyone in the first round. His last opponent, Cesar Nunez, came closest to surviving a full round with him, making it 2:45 before being stopped.

Berlanga, a Puerto Rican fighter from Brooklyn, has already said he thinks about someday facing Canelo Alvarez in what could be a huge fight. There are a lot of steps between here and there, no one is arguing that, but he’s got big plans, and he’s a legit prospect.

Berlanga will be facing Eric Moon (11-2, 6 KO), a 29-year-old fighter based in Georgia whose record has been built on small regional shows in an area not known for strong boxing scenes anymore.
