Super lightweight titleholder Jose Ramirez tells FightHype that he’s still planning to face Viktor Postol in his next fight, but also looks forward to some future fights, including and undisputed unification match against Josh Taylor. Check out what Ramirez had to say...
Ramirez on who he would like to face after taking on Viktor Postol in his next outing:
“After Postol I definitely want the (Josh) Taylor fight. I wanna go for all the belts, I think it’s time to see a super lightweight undisputed world champion. And I think it’ll be a great fight for the fans. So it’s a fight that’s interesting and I’m sure a lot of people are going to be excited to watch. After that I just make my way to the next division, the welterweight division. I wanna challenge myself and I feel like my body’s growing, getting stronger, and I think I’ll be a good welterweight as well when I let my body develop and get those extra pounds of muscle.
“I’d be willing to go straight to a title eliminator, especially if I come out as the undisputed super lightweight champion.”
On how he envisions a Josh Taylor fight playing out:
“I always get ready for 12 rounds. I take this job very serious, I’m always very good in shape and I spar 15 rounds when I get ready for 12 round fights and I feel like I can show Taylor something new, something he hasn’t seen before. People think they understand my style until they face me. I’m sure you could tell all my opponents, I’m a different fighter.
“When I’m in there, I’m not just the aggressive fighter that most people see from the outside, you know? I’m doing little things that work for me. I use a lot of angles, I break at the waist really good, and I’m always moving, I never stay in one spot. And I work the body pretty good too so people always think I’ma go straight to the body and I take advantage of that because now I’ll use my feints and land my hooks to the top so, you know, I just feel like I’ma overwhelm Taylor and I’ma surprise the fans and the people.
“I’m getting stronger, I’m getting faster, my craft is coming together. I feel like I’m peaking at the right time and I just can’t wait to show my full potential. I’m excited for myself too because I’m working really hard and I’m happy to be in these big fights.”
