Dubois and Joyce has originally been slated to square-off in early April until the coronavirus forced a postponement, then a July date was considered but ultimately couldn’t work because Warren reportedly wasn’t interested in staging the fight without fans in attendance. A new October date at least gives some breathing room to that possibility.
Speaking to ESPN about the new official date for his fight, Joyce said:
“It was great news to get the new date so I can finally punch up Dubois. Obviously once lockdown started I had a good idea we wouldn’t meet in July. But I was always staying on top of training. Now gyms are open for athletes I can kick on and just keep my focus on the new date.”
Joyce (10-0, 9 KOs) is most recently coming off a unanimous decision over Bryant Jennings last July and will have been out of action for over a year by the time this fight takes place. Meanwhile Dubois (14-0, 13 KOs) most recently knocked out Kyotaro Fujimoto this past December. He’ll be nearing a yearlong layoff himself by the time the opening bell ring.
