Eddie Hearn says negotiations for Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua are progressing well

According to Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, the summer of 2021 is when they’re looking to stage an undisputed heavyweight title unification between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Hearn says that the respective sides have agreed on the major point of money, and are now ironing out the finer details, as he explains to Sky Sports.

“[Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum and I] had a good chat [on Thursday]. We’re getting along alright. We have our words backwards and forwards but we both want to make the biggest fight of all time.

“We’re all moving forwards. We talked about the site, the other elements of the deal and we agreed to move forwards by papering this. Dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s. Get this boxed in for 2021.”

In the meanwhile Hearn admits that before we get to that showdown both fighters will have to traverse their interim schedules, with Fury to have a third fight against Deontay Wilder while Joshua hold his mandatory defense against Kubrat Pulev.

Some of the remaining details Fury and Joshua will have to work out are things like who will walk out first, who stands on what side of the fight poster, and things of that nature. None of those items should prove to be a deal breaker with a reported 50/50 split agreed to, so now it’s mostly up to the fighters to take care of business leading up to the prospective showdown.
