Ryan Garcia claims planned July 4 fight most likely won’t happen

Golden Boy had been pursuing Hector Tanajara and Mercito Gesta as potential opponents

Between the beefs, the callouts, and the opponent speculation, Ryan Garcia’s planned July 4th ring return has produced a fair bit of buzz. If he’s to be believed, however, it’s all for naught. “Kingry” claims that the bout “won’t happen most likely” due to “a lot of bulls*** [he’s] not going to get into right now.”

Though it could be standard diva talk, Garcia (20-0, 17 KO) has had his fair share of public spats with his management, which came to a head last year after Garcia turned down an ultra-late-notice fight and Golden Boy chief Oscar De La Hoya claimed that Vergil Ortiz Jr., not Garcia, was their brightest up-and-comer. They kissed and made up in time for Garcia to level Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca in a round apiece, but who knows what’s going on behind the scenes.

Either way, I’m sure Garcia will find another few dozen willing challengers while this gets resolved
