Mike Coppinger reports that Luis Nery’s super bantamweight debut against Aaron Alameda, originally scheduled for March 28th, will now headline a July 18th Showtime card. He does not mention whether the original undercard, which included Otto Wallin vs Lucas Browne and Joseph George vs Marcus Escudero 2, will tag along.
Nery (30-0, 24 KO), who recently linked up with Eddy Reynoso, extended his knockout streak to 11 by breaking down Juan Carlos Payano in July, earning a mandatory shot at WBC bantamweight champ Nordine Oubaali in the process. Four months later, though, a fresh scale fail against Emmanuel Rodriguez cost him both that fight and his mandatory status, prompting a move to 122.
He’ll be easing into the weight against Alameda (25-0, 13 KO), an unbeaten but untested 26-year-old out of Sonora, MX.
WBO super bantamweight champion Emanuel Navarrete recently stated that he’d like a piece of Nery before moving to featherweight, so keep your eyes peeled for that matchup if Nery runs over Alameda as expected.
