First scheduled for April 4th and then for May 2nd, the all-Thai super flyweight showdown between former champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and longtime flyweight king Amnat Ruenroeng is officially set for August 1st. As the original date was set to air on DAZN stateside, one would expect that to still be the case.
Srisaket (47-5-1, 41 KO) has not fought since narrowly falling to Juan Francisco Estrada in their rematch early last year. He’d previously taken the WBC super flyweight title from Roman Gonzalez, knocked him out in a rematch, and defended it against Estrada and Iran Diaz.
Ruenroeng (20-3, 6 KO), who turns 41 this December, fell out of the elite after a 1-3 skid saw him decisively beaten by John Riel Casimero, Wanfeng Ge, and Nawaphon Kaikanha. He’s 2-0 against low-level opposition since that last defeat.
It’s as much of a mismatch as when it was first announced. Hopefully this is just the price we have to pay to see Srisaket back against top super flyweights by year’s end.
