Jared “Big Baby” Anderson was supposed to have a quick turnaround return on July 9, but opponent Hector Perez had high levels of testosterone in his pre-fight drug testing. After further looks at Perez’s levels, the fight is back on for July 21.
Anderson (4-0, 4 KO) turned pro last October and every fight of his has been on an ESPN or ESPN+-televised card, at least in the prelims. He most recently fought on June 9, going past the first round for the first time as a pro, stopping a game Johnnie Langston in three.
Perez (7-2, 3 KO) has also already fought inside “The Bubble” in Vegas, beating Juan Torres via six-round decision on June 16. The 29-year-old Puerto Rican is really a cruiserweight, and in all candor Anderson will be expected to run him over.
But the 20-year-old Anderson really might be the best American heavyweight prospect in the game right now, and Top Rank have some high hopes for him.
The July 21 card is set to be headlined by Oscar Valdez vs Jayson Velez in a 130-pound fight, with Valdez looking to get a win there and set up a bigger bout with WBC titlist Miguel Berchelt later this year. The show will also feature exciting super middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga, plus women’s 108-pounder Kim Clavel, who would be making her U.S. debut and was recently a human interest feature subject for ESPN.
