With Jamel Herring again testing positive for COVID-19, Tuesday night’s original main event on ESPN is off, but the show will go on with Mikaela Mayer facing Helen Joseph in the makeshift card-topper.
Mayer (12-0, 5 KO) has had her own recent issue with the virus, as she was meant to fight on Top Rank’s first card back on June 9, but tested positive for COVID beforehand. She’s got the same opponent in Joseph (17-4-2, 10 KO), a 31-year-old Nigerian based in Connecticut.
Mayer, 30, weighed in at 131½, with Joseph at 129 for the junior lightweight bout, which is set for 10 rounds.
Clay Collard (7-2-3, 2 KO) is also back in action tomorrow night, following back-to-back upset wins over previously-unbeaten prospects, and he’s a good reason to tune in tomorrow night.
The 27-year-old Collard, a former UFC fighter, weighed in at 161¾ for a fight against LT Nelson (5-3, 4 KO), who weighed in at 158¾.
Another Clay is returning to Bubble action, too, as Clay Burns (9-8-2, 4 KO) will take on Ruben Cervera (11-2, 10 KO). Cervera came in at 131¾, with Burns at 133¼.
And making his pro debut will be former top U.S. amateur Javier Martinez, who recently signed with Top Rank. The 24-year-old middleweight prospect from Milwaukee will take on Jonathan Burrs (2-1, 0 KO) in a four-round fight. Martinez weighed in at 162, with Burrs at 161¼.
We’ll still have live coverage tomorrow night, with the card’s start time now adjusted to 9 pm ET instead of 8.
