Jamel Herring vs Jonathan Oquendo rebooked (again) for September 5th

The thoroughly cursed super featherweight title fight between WBO champion Jamel Herring and challenger Jonathan Oquendo is once again on the schedule after two false starts. Bob Arum tells ESPN that the bout is set for September 5th and that Herring has arrived back in Omaha to resume training.

Herring (21-2, 10 KO) first tested positive for COVID-19 just over a week before the initial July 2nd date, prompting Top Rank to push the fight back until the 14th and let the similarly delayed clash between Jose Pedraza and Mikkel LesPierre take its place. He was just hours away from the weigh-ins on July 13th when he once again tested positive, leaving Mikaela Mayer to headline against Helen Joseph.

Arum is taking no chances this time.

“That would be enough time to bring that fight back under any circumstances, he would be free of any particles and so forth.”

Top Rank’s savaged summer lineup resumes August 15th with a Carl Frampton/Michael Conlan squash fight doubleheader in Belfast.
