It’s good news for the iconic 69-year-old fighter.

About a week ago, it was reported that boxing legend Roberto Duran had been hospitalized in Panama City after testing positive for COVID-19, but the early reports were that he was doing OK and expected to pull through after treatment.

And now there’s good news, indeed, as the 69-year-old Duran has been discharged.

My Spanish is trash, so I won’t try a real translation here, but essentially Duran compared the fight with coronavirus to a world championship fight, and profusely thanked the medical professionals who have helped him and so many others. He also advised everyone to stay in and follow quarantine guidelines.

Obviously this is all wonderful news. “Legendary” arguably gets thrown around too much in all sports circles and in boxing, too, but Roberto Duran is a genuine, no-question legend, one of the absolute greatest fighters in the history of the sport. There’s no exaggeration in that statement.
