Showtime is back in the live boxing game on Saturday night, featuring a tripleheader of fights from the empty Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, and as the sport starts to crawl its way back to something resembling normalcy, the company put together a “welcome back” sort of video you might want to check out.
Saturday night’s Angelo Leo vs Tramaine Williams-topped broadcast will mark 141 days since the last live boxing card on Showtime, which was the Mar. 13 edition of ShoBox, which was also the last notable live card in the United States until Top Rank returned on June 9. Just as the pandemic was hitting and shutting things down in the States, Showtime went empty in Minnesota to get that last card in, as events scheduled for the next evening on ESPN and FS1 were canceled.
Mauro Ranallo narrates the short feature, which was written by executive producer David Dinkins Jr.
Tomorrow night’s show has Leo-Williams in the main event for the vacant WBO junior featherweight title, plus Ra’eese Aleem vs Marcus Bates in a short-notice rematch and WBA junior featherweight eliminator, and another rematch between light heavyweights Joe George and Marcos Escuedero.
Live coverage will begin at 9 pm ET, and you can join us here at Bad Left Hook for full round-by-round coverage, discussion, and updates, plus post-fight analysis and reaction.
