Eddy Reynoso on board with Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell fight, predicts Garcia KO

For those wondering if the trainer would OK the fight, it looks like he will.

With it being reported that Ryan Garcia is ready to take on Luke Campbell and negotiations beginning to make the fight a reality, one question brought up here in the comments — and reasonably enough — was whether or not Garcia’s trainer Eddy Reynoso would be on board with the idea.

It’s worth remembering that not too long ago, Reynoso, one of the top trainers in the sport today, said he wasn’t interested in matching Garcia against Jorge Linares just yet, which Golden Boy had intended to do this spring before the COVID lockdown dashed those plans.

But it looks like Reynoso is not only down for Garcia-Campbell, he thinks his young fighter will get a knockout win:

And Garcia, of course, agrees with his trainer’s feeling:

The 21-year-old Garcia (20-0, 17 KO) would be taking a big step up in competition against Campbell (20-3, 16 KO), a 32-year-old former Olympic gold medalist who has been in at the top level as a pro. He’s also lost at that top level, but he’s a legitimate contender and a very good fighter, a big departure stylistically and technically from guys like Romero Duno or Jayson Velez, to name a couple of Garcia’s better opponents.

This either means that Reynoso thinks Campbell is an easier target than Linares, or it means Reynoso has backed down a little on his claims that he must be in full control of whom Garcia fights.

That said, this is still no done deal, but it looks like the Garcia side are really fully into doing it, and we know Campbell is up for it. Golden Boy and Matchroom Boxing will have to hammer out the details and all that, but on paper that shouldn’t be a big problem, they work together routinely through DAZN.
