Carlos Takam vs Jerry Forrest

Round 1: Takam measures with a probing jab and then lands a right hand to the body. Forrest tries his own jab but can’t find the range. Takam flicks a jab that misses upstairs. Right hand lead lands for Takam. Now Forrest partially lands a left hand as Takam comes in. Takam misses on his next lead right hand. Takam jabs and then looks to land a right hand behind it. Takam looks a littler jittery to me to start this fight. Takam manages to get in a short right hand before falling into a clinch with Forrest. Takam 10-9.

Round 2: Takam reaches on a right hand lead that falls a little short. Both fighters continue to fall into clinches as they try to figure out the awkward southpaw-orthodox matchup. Takam is keeping an active jab and Forrest comes forward but falls short on a couple shots. Right hand lands to the body for Takam. Right hand gets in upstairs for Takam this time, then a left hand shortly after. Takam just barely misses on a big right hand. Takam 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Both fighters end up in a clinch in short order. Forrest tries to step forward but Takam meets him with a right hand. Takam misses on a right uppercut to the body on the inside. The fighters find themselves right back in close range but can’t get the space to land anything with leverage. Right hand to the body makes a little contact for Takam. Takam keeps that right hand working to the body. Forrest tries to land several consecutive left hooks in a row. A lot of sloppy work but, Takam 10-9.

Round 4: Jab to the body falls a little short for Takam. Forrest tries his own jab to the body but can’t make much of it. Takam leads with a right hand before falling into another clinch with Forrest. Right hand lead comes from Takam again and makes partial contact. Takam comes right back with another right hand that gets in during a combination. Jab comes from Takam. Takam lunges in behind two shots that Forrest pulls away from. Right hand tags the body for Takam again, followed by a couple of uppercuts downstairs. Takam 10-9, 40-36.

Round 5: Jab from Forrest can’t find the range. Takam digs to the body with his right hand during another clinch. Both fighters try to trade at the same time any neither land clean. Takam gets in another shot downstairs. Left hand from Forrest makes some contact. Takam has a cut over his left eye which I have to think came from a head clash consider all the clinches there’s been (and few clean shots from Forrest). Left hook lands to the body for Takam. Left hand makes a little contact for Forrest. Takam leads with a right hand. Takam just misses on a lead right but slips out of the way of a counter. Takam tries two more right hands before rattling off a short combination before the bell. Takam 10-9.

Round 6: Takam jabs but misses on the right hand he was really trying to land. Both fighters wrestles up close. Takam lands a right hand to the body. Right hand gets in downstairs for Takam as they jockey for position on the inside. Takam is just working a lot more than Forrest. Takam is not only outboxing Forrest on the outside, but showing more grit and know-how on the inside. Two uppercuts land for Takam to the body at close range. Right hand lead lands upstairs for Takam this time. Takam has Forrest on the ropes and works both hands to the body and then tries to bring one upstairs. Takam 10-9, 60-54.

Round 7: Takam tries a lead right to the body and then gets in a good one right on the chin. Forrest comes right back with two big shots that don’t make solid contact. Uppercut and right hand land for Takam and Forrest is really dropping a deuce in this fight. Jab lands for Takam, and I really don’t remember ever seeing him outbox another fighter before but it’s working well here. Right hand lands for Takam as he comes in leading with his head right afterwards. Right hand gets in for Takam up close and Forrest tries to respond but only with an ineffective shot. Takam 10-9.

Round 8: Forrest’s trainer tells him he has to fight Takam now. Let’s see. Right hand lead from Takam misses upstairs. Left hook from Forrest misses from range. Jab lands for Takam. Both fighters throw hooks but Forrest falls off balance. Right hand scores for Takam to the head. Double left to the body gets in for Takam. Hard straight right to the body lands for Takam this time. Takam is landing body shots and Forrest is doing little-to-nothing by way of effective offense. Forrest clinches Takam against the ropes. Takam comes forward with a right hand. Right hook from Takam lands clean upstairs. Forrest falls short on a straight left. Takam 10-9, 80-72.

Round 9: Takam misses on two shots upstairs. Takam lands the next lead right hand. Forrest misses on a pawing jab and then a left hand that follows. Takam makes partial contact on a right hand before pivoting out. Two body shots get in for Takam. Right hand from Takam misses. Forrest comes forward and walks into a shot. Right hand lands to the body for Takam. Forrest misses on a hail mary left hook. Jab lands for Takam, then a right hand. Forrest lands a left hand up close. I still see Takam landing almost all the clean shots. Takam 10-9.

Round 10: Forrest’s trainer tells him to go for the knockout in this round, that he has ‘nothing to lose.’ Takam falls into another clinch right away. Left hand from Forrest gets in upstairs. Forrest presses forward and ducks a right hand from Takam. Takam misses upstairs and Forrest tries to counter but ends up in another clinch. Straight left hand gets in for Forrest upstairs. Forrest 10-9. I’ve got it wide for Takam, 99-91.

Carlos Castro vs Cesar Juarez

Round 1: Castro misses on a lead as Juarez misses on a counter to follow up. Now Juarez lands a couple of body shots as he backs Castro to the ropes. Castro gets back to center ring and lands a jab to the body. Counter overhand right misses for Castro as he loads up on the shot. Both fighters trade a couple hooks at close range but neither land anything too clean. Castro goes back to a jab to the body and then lands a counter hook as Juarez steps in. Jab to the body lands again for Castro, then another. Now Juarez misses on a jab upstairs but strafes Castro with a hook to the body. Jab lands again to the body for Castro. Another jab makes contact for Castro downstairs. I’ll edge this round to Castro. Castro 10-9.

Round 2: Castro comes out pressuring and backs Juarez towards the ropes but throws a few shots that don’t land clean. Now Castro goes back to the body with a jab, then another moments later, then a third. Combination comes from Castro and he makes solid contact with a few of them. Juarez tries to fire back with a few shots but nothing of significance lands. Wide right hook to the body misses for Juarez. Hard jab to the body lands for Castro. Castro throws three shots that Juarez blocks before pivoting out and landing another jab to the body. Left to the body gets in for Juarez this time but Castro comes back with a solid counter. Castro 10-9, 20-18.

Round 3: Castro paws with a few jabs and tries to find a home with a sweeping right hand behind it. Castro is dominating this fight at long range and something much less than that when it gets on the inside. Juarez loads up on several hard shots but can’t find much of a target to land on. Counter right hand gets in for Castro. More right hands get in for Castro and he’s finding the target much more often now. Left to the body lands well for Castro and Juarez felt that one! Juarez is hurting from that liver shot and Castro is touching him all over while Juarez covers up. Castro 10-9.

Round 4: Short left uppercut makes partial contact for Castro. Two clean, hard body shots land for Juarez and you can really hear them land. Juarez is on borrowed time now as he been taking a beating downstairs and it’s really showing in his body language. Juarez backs off after taking another body shot and then eats a clean right uppercut that makes him stumble. Right hand lands upstairs for Castro this time. Both fighters trade hooks on the inside. Castro digs down with another left hook to the body. One more hook to the liver for the road. Castro 10-9, 40-36.

The corner for Juarez stops the fight as they too see inevitable. Castro TKO-4.

Veteran and former title challenger Carlos Takam has come in on short notice as the A-side, taking on Jerry Forrest. Tonight was originally meant to be Jarrell Miller vs Jerry Forrest, but, well, you know the story by now.

The 39-year-old Takam and the 32-year-old Forrest will both look to impress and maybe even do so in quick and decisive fashion with a potential quick turnaround always available in THE BUBBLE!

The co-feature will see 122-pound prospect Carlos Castro take on battle-tested vet Cesar Juarez in a 10-round featherweight bout. We’ll also see prospects Joshafat Ortiz and Joshua Orta square off in a six-round lightweight fight, and Fred Wilson Jr takes on Donte Stubbs in a six-round middleweight bout. Stubbs just fought on ESPN on June 30, losing to Isiah Jones, who had himself turned around from a June 16 loss on ESPN. Stubbs will look to do to Wilson what Jones did to him, basically.

Heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson was supposed to fight on the card, but is out after his opponent came down with an illness. Men called “Big Baby” just were not supposed to be fighting tonight.
