ESPN reports that DAZN’s August 28th card in Indio’s Fantasy Springs Resort & Casino, formerly headlined by Jorge Linares vs. Javier Fortuna before the former tested positive for coronavirus, has been canceled. Unable to find a suitable replacement foe for Fortuna in time, “the plan is to move this card to some time in September.”
Unbeaten prospect Hector Tanajara had been floated as a potential opponent, but reportedly requested additional time to prepare. It’s unclear whether he’ll stay in consideration or be replaced by a recovered Linares.
The card was set to feature Rashidi Ellis vs. Brad Solomon in the co-feature, plus the latest from Bektemir “The Bully” Melikuziev, Alexis Rocha, Lamont Roach Jr., and Marlen Esparza. One would hope that a successful transplant to September would keep the lineup intact, as it looked to be a solid Friday night of fights.
On the bright side, we’ve still got Jeff Horn-Tim Tzsyu the prior Wednesday and Jose Ramirez-Viktor Postol the day after. For now, at least.
