Super lightweight Stephen McKenna (4-0, 4 KOs) is in camp, sparring with Luke Campbell to help him for what is expected to be a clash against Ryan Garcia — despite that fight not yet formally announced. McKenna tells Sky Sports that he previously worked with Ryan Garcia in the past and that based upon that experience, he thinks Campbell can take Garcia out.
“It was a great spar, he’s very fast,” McKenna told Sky Sports. “He’s sharp, but I did four good rounds and I laid it into him. It was good work. It’s a fight I would also like down the line. He didn’t want any more, put it that way. He found it hard to handle my pressure. I’m a very come-forward, aggressive fighter and it was different for him.”
McKenna continues on by the way Campbell has been looking so far in camp — very sharp — he expects Campbell to put a stop to Garcia’s rising star.
“Luke is looking really sharp. I think Luke would win by stoppage.”
Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) has been out of action since losing a decision to Vasiliy Lomachenko last August while Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) is riding a four-fight stoppage streak, albeit not against the level of fighter Campbell has proven to be.
At this point we have to wait for official confirmation that a Garcia-Campbell fight will in fact happen, but all the indicators are currently pointing in that direction.
