Super middleweight Steven “So Cold” Nelson will make his ring return on the Sept. 5 ESPN card, which is set to be headlined by Nelson’s gym teammate Jamel Herring, who is yet again set to defend the WBO junior lightweight title against Jonathan Oquendo.
The 32-year-old Nelson (16-0, 13 KO) didn’t write of an opponent in his social media post about the date, but said the fight is signed and a done deal. Of course, Herring-Oquendo has been set twice and canceled twice due to positive coronavirus tests from Herring, so knock on wood and all that.
Nelson last fought on Jan. 11, when he stopped Cem Kilic in the eighth round on the Hart-Smith card from Atlantic City. He got a late start as a pro fighter, turning pro in 2016 at age 27, but he’s done the jobs put in front of him thus far, and quite well, so hopefully he’s taking no worse than a sideways step from the Kilic bout, but we’ve got Greg Vendetti headlining FOX shows right now so there’s no guarantee.
