With Jamel Herring set to take on Jonathan Oquendo this weekend in the Top Rank bubble, both fighters appeared for a press conference to discuss their expectations for the fights. Check out some excerpts below with the full video of the press conference above, thanks to Fight Hub TV.
Herring on (hopefully) facing Oquendo this weekend after having it postponed a couple of times:
“I just feel like everything happens for a reason. It’s not like I was the only one just suffering — it’s a global pandemic so I can’t really complain too much. I’m just glad that I have a great team, my management, BoMac, and my promoter Top Rank, where we have the access to be able to reschedule and get me back in action.”
Herring on training with Brian McIntyre, Terence Crawford, and the crew:
“Just being around Bud, Steven Nelson — who’s also fighting this weekend — Rob Brant, Maurice Hooker, and so many guys coming in that gym. Like I said, I’m just grateful because despite all the setbacks I was able to handle business sparring every other day or so, we have a track. So to me it’s just another day at the job and I’m just happy to be here.”
Oquendo on his experience facing world titleholders and how that will help him:
“I know he’s a great fighter, he deserves where he is right now, and I’ll be trying for the opportunity. I respect him as a fighter, I’ve been waiting for this opportunity, and I’ll do my best Saturday night.”
