Ryan Garcia’s 2021 is off to the right start, and so is boxing’s.
Today’s card from Dallas not only saw Garcia knock out Luke Campbell in the seventh round of a terrific main event, but some great action on the undercard, too, with Roger Gutierrez dramatically beating Rene Alvarado for a WBA title at 130, and Felix Alvarado retaining the IBF title at 108 with a stoppage win over DeeJay Kriel.
But the day obviously belongs to the 22-year-old Garcia (21-0, 18 KO), whose win fully establishes him as a legitimate lightweight contender, puts him in line to face WBC titlist Devin Haney, and could set up a fight with Gervonta “Tank” Davis, which is what Garcia says he wants most.
