- Jose Nunez D-8 Aram Avagyan (76-76, 76-76, 77-75) [Recap]
Tonight starting at 9 pm ET on Showtime, the 20th anniversary year of ShoBox: The New Generation kicks off with a doubleheader, featuring junior welterweights Yeis Solano and Mykquan Williams in a 10-round main event.
Solano, 28, is a Colombian southpaw who had his first 12 bouts in his home country, then two at the “famed” Cheer’s Bar in Tijuana, before making his U.S. debut in June 2019, beating Elias Damian Araujo via split decision on a ShoBox card from Iowa.
Tonight he’s got Williams, a 22-year-old from Connecticut who has had his last two bouts on DiBella cards in the northeast, beating Rickey Edwards in May 2019, and then going to a draw with Tre’Sean Wiggins in Oct. 2019. The latter result was a disappointment for sure, and he’ll look to get going again here. Both fighters are still unbeaten.
The eight-round junior lightweight co-feature will pit Panamanian southpaw Jose Nunez against 30-year-old Armenian Aram Avagyan in what will be Nunez’s U.S. debut.
UPDATE (2:38 pm ET): The scheduled opener between Martino Jules and Pedro Marquez was canceled today, after Marquez “experienced some cognitive issues” in the morning and was sent for examination.
